A is for …

A is not just for Acne … Vitamin A that is! You may know it as Retinol, Retin-A, Tretinoin, Renova, or simply Vitamin A.

Indeed, this anti-aging product was introduced as an Acne medication some 30+ years ago, but these days its being prescribed more and more as an anti-aging regimen, as well as for Hyperpigmentation and sun-damaged skin. In addition, it is often used in preparation for more advanced skin care treatments such as Laser Skin Resurfacing and Facial Surgery.

By providing a constant light peel, it speeds up the skin’s natural exfoliation process, promotes collagen production, and improves the overall texture of the skin. It also allows for more effective treatment and deeper product penetration.

Originally, you could only obtain a prescription from your Dermatologist for this miracle cream, but now you can find a less aggressive option available through most product lines, mainly advanced clinical lines. Of course, as with anything else, always check first with a licensed Aesthetician, (preferably one with advanced training or experience in clinical skin care) or your Dermatologist to see if you’re a candidate for a Retinol cream.

The down side? Initially your skin may breakout, as it’s getting used to a new product, but this is usually short-lived as your skin is renewed in just a few weeks. Slight redness and peeling is also normal, and you will definitely be EXTRA sensitive to the sun. SPF 45 (at least) daily, should be used and prolonged sun exposure should be avoided. If you must be exposed for an extended amount of time, wear a hat, along with your SPF.

Overall, in my opinion, it is by far, one of the best treatment options for preserving your ‘twenties’! 🙂
